Awareness සති

Aware and Composed Dwelling:
The Blessed Buddha once said:
Monks, a Noble should dwell Aware and Composed…
This is our instruction to you!
And how does a monk dwell Aware?
Herein a friend dwells contemplating any body as a void frame only;as a transient, painful and impersonal neither-me-nor-mine appearance,
while alert, ballanced and deliberately aware, thereby overcoming
any mental rejection of reality, arisen from coveting
this world
Exactly so does he dwell with regard to any feeling..
with regard to any mood and mentality..
with regard to any phenomenon..
Only precisely so is a Noble One Acutely Aware!

And how does a monk dwell Composed?
Herein a friend dwells fully aware of all feelings, that arise..
fully aware of all feelings, that settle..
fully aware of all feelings, that cease..
Such Noble Ones dwells fully aware of all thoughts, that arise..
fully aware of all thoughts, that remain..
fully aware of all thoughts, that stop..
Such clever ones dwell fully aware of all perceptions, that arise..
fully aware of all perceptions, that persist..
fully aware of all perceptions, that end..
Just so is this Noble One
Cool, Calm, and Composed!

Life, love, peace, joy all now

Non greed, non hate, and non delusion

The 3 Root States of all, that is Advantageous:

By means of Non-Greed, they are not greedy, lusty, desirous, yearning or longing.
Non-greed has the characteristic of easy absence of desire for any given object.
It does not cling, attach or adhere, but rolls off like a water drop on a lotus leaf!
The function of non-greed is not to lay hold on, grasp, fasten or cling to anything.
It is manifested as a state of not treating as a shelter, like one who leaves dirt...

Through Non-Hate, they do not react with hate, anger, irritation, or opposition.
Non-hate has the characteristic of lack of cruelty. Gently, it does not oppose...
Its function is to remove any fever of annoyance, and allay all fury exasperation.
Non-hate is manifested as a pleasant and mild agreeableness, like the full moon!

Due to Non-Delusion, they are not ignorant, confused, in doubt, or perplexed...
Non-delusion has the characteristic of seeing through, penetrating to the real
nature of phenomena, understanding their essence, and not just their appearance.
The function of non-delusion is to illuminate the object everywhere, like a lamp.
Non-delusion is manifested as non-bewilderment, like a clever guide in a forest.

These three states should be regarded as the roots of all that is advantageous!
Vism I 465.

A meditation master described his practice as:  “When I eat, I eat.  When I walk, I walk.  When I sleep, I sleep.”  So when you consider this, you’ll realize that meditation is related to ordinary things, not extraordinary things, not special things…[When we do] simple, practical, ordinary things in life consciously, then these ordinary things become extraordinary.          -Godwin Sir

World is a projection of Mind

Every thing in the whole world is created because of the conception. Those conceptions are held in the conception itself. The confirmation of being and existence of every thing is the nature of conception (mind), it is stated thus: "cittēna niyati loko - cittēna pari kassati
cittassa ēka dhammassa - sabbēva vasaman vagū"

ajahn chah

A good practice is to ask yourself very sincerely, "Why was I born?" Ask yourself this question in the morning, in the afternoon, and at night…every day.

Our birth and death are just one thing. You can’t have one without the other. It’s a little funny to see how at a death people are so tearful and sad, and at a birth how happy and delighted. It’s delusion. I think that if you really want to cry, then it would be better to do so when someone’s born. Cry at the root, for if there were no birth, there would be no death. Can you understand this?

You’d think that people could appreciate what it would be like to live in a person’s belly. How uncomfortable that would be! Just look at how merely staying in a hut for only one day is already hard to take. You shut all the doors and windows and you’re suffocating already. How would it be to live in a person’s belly for nine months? Yet you want to stick your head right in there, to put your neck in the noose once again.

Why are we born? We are born so that we will not have to be born again.

Be as you

The most important thing is to find out what is the most important thing.

Who am I

The true ‘I’ is not apparent and the false ‘I’ is parading itself. This false ‘I’ is the obstacle to your right knowledge. Find out where from this false ‘I’ arises. Then it will disappear. You will be only what you are - i.e., absolute Being.

There are no problems

Your life situation exists in time. Your life is now.
Your life situation is mind-stuff. Your life is real.
Find the "narrow gate that leads to life." It is called the Now. Narrow your life down to this moment. Your life situation may be full of problems - most life situations are - but find out if you have any problem at this moment. Not tomorrow or in ten minutes, but now. Do you have a problem now?
When you are full of problems, there is no room for anything new to enter, no room for a solution. So whenever you can, make some room, create some space, so that you find the life underneath your life situation.

The quieter you become, the more you can here.
Again words, language, etc. do not matter.

Let us listen
Sit comfortably
Learn to listen- because you really do not know how to listen
In that, no mental commentaries, labels, interpretations, likes, dislikes..NO VOICE IN THE HEAD
If out of mindfulness, it is o.k. know that and come back here, this moment.

Namo... Namo...Anjaninandanaaya Joy-
Victory over the darkness of suffering...
Victory to the one with the body of a thunderbolt
You are home of all Grace.
Destroy all my problems, calamities and sufferings.
You (Life) are my Greatest Guru,
Bestow your Grace on me.
You are the destroyer of Suffering, the abode of Grace

Let the river of these Names take you...
Let yourself  float in the beauty of your own heart
into the ocean of Love that fills all space,
that ALWAYS is...
that ONLY is.
When we know ourselves to be That,
then we can be This too.
Then we can play,
We are free and bound in the same breath,
The breath of the One breathes in us.
It's OK to be messed up, to feel small and sad and hurt
with no hope of ever seeing a good day.
It's OK to forget, to be forgotten,
to be left behind,
It's OK to be betrayed, strung out on everything
that everyone has ever done to us and we can't ever forgive...
Because
The breath of the One breathes in us.
Breathes us.
Even when we don't know.

Where is this One? How can we find that One?
The Saints say that the One is hidden in the Name.
The Divine Name. The name of Love/Joy/Peace
And that by constant repetition,
gradually but INEVITABLY
the Presence that is hidden in the Name reveals itself!
Where? In our own hearts!
The medicine of the Name
hidden in the sugar syrup of music
begins to cure us of our sadness;
begins to cure us of our fascination with STUFF;
to cure us of thinking that happiness will come to us from the outside;
that if we have just one more hit; a better car;
a more beautiful lover, or more beautiful lovers;
a good relationship; a better relationship; ANY! relationship;
it will be enough.
When the Buddha came out of the jungle after His Enlightenment,
he said, "Oh! Monks...guess what? Stuff doesn't make you happy.”
The nature of stuff is that it will be NEVER be enough!

Or something like that...

“Somewhere in this process you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking gibbering madhouse on wheels barreling pell-mell down the hill utterly out of control and hopeless. No problem. You are not crazier than you were yesterday. Retreat on Noble Quest ආර්ය පර්යේෂණය පුහුණු වීමේ නේවාසික වැඩමුළුව

Reminder about the residential meditation workshop
Retreat on Noble Quest
July 27 starts
Conducted by Ven. Nakkawatta Asaranasarana
at Lovturu Daham Peetaya, Thummodara, Sri Lanka.

Dear Children, this is an good opportunity for you to learn how to practice noble quest that you have already learned, in your day today activities.

දුක් වේදනාවන් සුවපත් කරණ මහා ශල්යර වෛද්යnවරයාණෝ (the greatest surgeon ever to guide you a way out of sufferings) බුදුපියාණන්වහන්සේ.
Dear Children, Stress Depression could completely be cured. There is a way out of misery. Do not destroy your beautiful life. How fortunate you are dear.
Only you can do this. Nobody can do it for you. But if you are fortunate enough to find someone who is intensely conscious, if you can be with them and join them in the state of presence, that can be helpful and will accelerate things. In this way, your own light will quickly grow stronger. When a log that has only just started to burn is placed next to one that is burning fiercely, and after a while they are separated again, the first log will be burning with much greater intensity. After all, it is the same fire. To be such a fire is one of the functions of a spiritual teacher. Some therapists may also be able to fulfill that function, provided that they have gone beyond the level of mind and can create and sustain a state of intense conscious presence while they are working with you.
The psychological condition of fear is divorced from any concrete and true immediate danger. It comes in many forms: unease, worry, anxiety, nervousness, tension, dread, phobia, and so on. This kind of psychological fear is always of something that might happen, not of something that is happening now. You are in the here and now, while your mind is in the future. This creates an anxiety gap. And if you are identified with your mind and have lost touch with the power and simplicity of the Now, that anxiety gap will be your constant companion.

The Life Within Loneliness Vs Solitude

In the elderly, two sets of values operate simultaneously: the desire to stay active and to maintain a sense of self-worth in the eyes of others, and the desire to withdraw from social commitments to a more leisurely, contemplative life. Although this inward-turning is viewed by some as antisocial, a problem to be solved or worried about (“I used to be so active, what’s wrong with me?”), it seems to be a natural by-product of aging. This isn’t a paranoid drawing-inward, it isn’t being afraid of the world, but rather a kind of deepening that seems to result from the nearness of death, and the desire to reflect on what life is all about.
It is important to create opportunities for doing that – to build some time into our lives to consider our deepest questions about who we are, where we are, and how it all makes sense. It’s a great feeling to be able to open the door to mystery and reflect on the deeper significance of life. Slowing down is the only way to take advantage of this opportunity.
I receive a lot of letters from spiritual seekers who tell me that they’re lonely on their path, live in small towns and have no one around with whom to share how they’re feeling. They’re looking for fellowship, a community of like-minded Souls with whom to voice their concerns about the deeper issues surrounding aging, the mystery of death, and how to remain conscious in the face of physical, social and psychological challenges. Community is vital to help us reorient ourselves to a spiritual perspective. It helps to have fellow seekers in your life who can help you to stay on-track, and who remind you gently when you seem to have lost your way. Being in the company of people engaged in conscious-aging practice helps strengthen our resolve, and helps us stand firm against the cultural message that conspire against elder wisdom.
It’s important for us to seek out opportunities for connecting with others on this path of wisdom, and when this isn’t possible, to find other ways to cultivate some means of staying connected. Books are an excellent tool for maintaining such support; in the years when I traveled a great deal and couldn’t always be in the company of others on a conscious path, I kept a cache of reliable book-friends with me: the quotes of Lao Tzu, the Dhammapada or the Gita, as a lifeline to wisdom. I have a very dear friend whose grandmother is a Christian Scientist; although a very worldly person, she reads the literature of her faith every day without fail, and has done so for many years. Although her family is worried that this faith might compromise her willingness to accept medical treatment as she gets older, this lady seems quite happy, and uses her spiritual studies to remain grounded in a Soul perspective.
Our relationship with the world at large shifts from “outer” to “inner.” We learn, as our worldly roles fall away, to place emphasis on connections of the heart. We come to recognize and honor our relationships with family, friends, and the greater community. Although we may remain active in our communities, we do not forget that old age is a time for reflection and inner work. Free of the pressure to achieve, and of the masks we’ve worn to operate in society, we focus our attention on remaining mindful of each precious passing day, and on not becoming entangled in the voices of our Ego. Equipped with this wisdom we find ourselves free to live more creatively than ever before. We create our lives from a place of equanimity and peace, from the quiet spaciousness of being awake, and in love, among all living things.

ordinary things become extraordinary

A meditation master described his practice as:  “When I eat, I eat.  When I walk, I walk.  When I sleep, I sleep.”  So when you consider this, you’ll realize that meditation is related to ordinary things, not extraordinary things, not special things…[When we do] simple, practical, ordinary things in life consciously, then these ordinary things become extraordinary.

water to the ocean

"You have no idea how hard I've looked for a gift to bring You. Nothing seemed right. What's the point of bringing gold to the gold mine, or water to the ocean. Everything I came up with was like taking spices to the Orient. It's no good giving my heart and my soul because you already have these. So I've brought you a mirror. Look at yourself and remember me."
— Rumi

Practices of purification are done in order to “cool us out,” so we’re not creating so much heavy karma for ourselves. We are constantly preoccupied with the creations of our minds. Einstein said, “The true value of a human being can be found in the degree to which he has attained liberation from the self.” What we strive to be liberated from is our habitual thought patterns and the pull of our senses. Lightening up in these areas gives us the space to refocus and deepen the benefits of centering the mind with meditation

Lightening up in these areas gives us the space to refocus and deepen the benefits of centering the mind with meditation, mantra or the practices of Bhakti yoga. With the deepening of these practices, comes the higher wisdom.
This trip is fraught with paradoxes. You have to give it all up to have it all. Turn off your mind – there is a place in you that already knows – trust that. Jesus said, “Unless ye become as little children, ye cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” Being is dying by loving. Something within me must die. It’s like the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly. The caterpillar will not be a flying caterpillar for it will have changed. We’re talking about how to become butterflies.
This is the pathless path – returning to where you were initially before you got lost. The deepest truth in you is where the journey leads – shedding, like taking off layers of an onion, until you come to your essence. The key to the spiritual journey is not acquiring something outside of yourself. Rather it is shedding the veils to come back to the deepest truth of your being.
All that you seek is already within you. It’s often focused in the center of the chest, which has been called the soul or in Hinduism, the Atman, in Buddhism, the pure Buddha-Mind. Christ said, “The kingdom of heaven is within you.” Quakers call it the “still small voice within.” This is the space of full awareness that is in harmony with the universe, and thus is wisdom itself. Inside each of us is the full spirit of God. When you want to approach God, go inward to meet God inside.
The offering up or cleaning up ego stuff is called purification. Purification is the act of letting go. This is done out of discriminative awareness. That is, you understand that you are an entity passing through a life in which the entire drama is an offering for your awakening. You see that the life experience is a vehicle for coming to God, or becoming conscious, for becoming liberated. And you understand ultimately that’s what you are doing here.
Excerpt from Ram Dass’ upcoming book “Polishing the Mirror” set for release in August, 2013.

ugly and painful

“Deeply buried in the mind, there lies a mechanism that accepts what the mind experiences as beautiful and pleasant and rejects those experiences that are perceived as ugly and painful. This mechanism gives rise to those states of mind that we are training ourselves to avoid-- things like greed, lust, hatred, aversion, and jealousy.”

nothing to be reached

When you speak of a path, where are you now? and where do you want to go? If these are known, then we can talk of the path. Know first where you are and what you are. There is nothing to be reached. You are always as you really are. But you don’t realise it. That is all.

Stress Depression could completely be cured.

Noble Quest

When you see thinking
as just thinking
then that’s wisdom

It rises, it passes away. As simple as that

“Discipline" is a difficult word for most of us. It conjures up images of somebody standing over you with a stick, telling you that you're wrong. But self-discipline is different. It's the skill of seeing through the hollow shouting of your own impulses and piercing their secret. They have no power over you. It's all a show, a deception. Your urges scream and bluster at you; they cajole; they coax; they threaten; but they really carry no stick at all. You give in out of habit. You give in because you never really bother to look beyond the threat. It is all empty back there. There is only one way to learn this lesson, though. The words on this page won't do it. But look within and watch the stuff coming up-restlessness, anxiety, impatience, pain-just watch it come up and don't get involved. Much to your surprise, it will simply go away. It rises, it passes away. As simple as that. There is another word for self-discipline. It is patience.”

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MY PAIN.

The whole world is an enemy. They don't like my happiness. They did it to me. They and even my life did not treat me well. That is why I am here today. Otherwise I would have been somewhere else.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MY PAIN.
Please realize that this is a myth, illusion, key to the viscous circle of pain and suffering.
